Palmistry — The Major Lines and Mounts, Explained

What a palm reader actually looks at: the Heart, Head, Life and Fate lines, the planetary mounts and what their fullness signifies, which hand to read, and how to take a photo clear enough to read from.

The four major lines

Most readings begin with four lines. Their depth, length and breaks are what a reader interprets — a long line is not automatically a good one, and a broken line is read as change rather than misfortune.

  • Heart line — the uppermost major line, read for emotional life and attachment
  • Head line — runs across the palm below it, read for thinking style and focus
  • Life line — curves around the base of the thumb; tied to vitality, not lifespan
  • Fate line — rises vertically toward the middle finger, read for career and direction

The mounts

The raised pads of the palm are named for planets, and their relative fullness is taken as emphasis. A prominent mount is read as that quality being strong in the person; a flat one as it being less pronounced.

  • Jupiter, below the index finger — ambition and leadership
  • Saturn, below the middle finger — discipline and responsibility
  • Apollo, below the ring finger — creativity and expression
  • Mercury, below the little finger — communication and commerce
  • Venus, the base of the thumb — warmth, vitality and affection
  • Luna, opposite Venus — imagination and intuition

Which hand to read

The common convention is that the non-dominant hand shows what a person was born with and the dominant hand shows what they have made of it. Readers generally look at both and pay attention to where the two differ, since the difference is the part that is read as change over a lifetime.

Getting a usable palm photo

A reading is only as good as the image. Use flat, even daylight, open the hand fully without straining it, keep the whole palm in frame from wrist to fingertips, and avoid a direct flash — harsh light flattens the finer lines and loses exactly the detail the reading depends on.

Frequently asked questions

Does the life line show how long I will live?
No. Despite the name, the life line is traditionally read for vitality, constitution and major changes of circumstance. Its length is not treated as a lifespan.
How does palm scanning work on 101 Pandit?
You photograph your palm with your phone camera and the app analyses the Life, Head, Heart and Fate lines, returning a detailed written reading. It is a premium feature unlocked with Vedic Tokens.
Which hand should I scan?
Scan your dominant hand if you scan only one, since it is read as reflecting your present. Scanning both gives a fuller reading, because the difference between them is itself meaningful.
Are my palm photos kept private?
Palm images are used to produce your reading. What is stored and for how long is set out in the privacy policy, which is linked in the footer of every page.
